Wood Pellet Burners
Wood pellets are a different form of fuel made often from sawdust and other wood by-products. They are an efficient and compact form of fuel but can be more expensive than normal old firewood.
Pellet burners are much like wood burners in that they are cost effective and environmentally friendly. It’s also important to make a note of the rules and regulations when installing a pellet burner.
Advantages
- Regardless of whether you install an insert burner or a freestanding model the efficiency is the same.
- How much heat you need is easier to control with a pellet burner as heat output is controllable over a much wider range compared with a wood burner.
- Pellet burners produce less ash than wood burners and so require less cleaning.
Disadvantages
- At most a pellet burner can cost around 4 times more than running a wood burner or a heat pump.
- Installation requires there to be a power outlet nearby.
- Building consents must be obtained from your local council.
